BEORN – Time to Dare

The
release of a debut album is something that every band dreams to achieve. It is
an album of long effort which lets us witness the talent of the band, its
influences and inspiration. BEORN from Russia were formed in 2008 and after the
release of a single in 2012, on October 30th 2015 they have finally
released their debut album entitled “Time to Dare”. This is the album I am
about to present to you in the next few lines…
THE COVER: The
painting on the album’s cover is something that would fit as a cover in any
fantasy novel. I can’t explain why but it brought to my mind Jules Verne’s
novel under the title “Robur the Conqueror”. It is probably cause of these
flying ships that rise from the storming sea and fly straight to the sky. All
in all it is a beautiful cover which lets your mind wonder.
MUSICAL STYLE: If
the extensive use of keyboards makes you symphonic power metal, then I will
agree with you. For me this description might give you a hint for the sound of
BEORN, but it is definitely restrictive. Actually BEORN is a power metal band
with strong heavy metal elements where keyboards also play a strong part. The
interesting thing though with this band is that it mixes the origins of the
power metal sound with the modern tendencies of this genre. I think this is what
makes them sound as a classic power metal band and yet they have a contemporary
and fresh sound. Also the keyboards move from epic symphonic themes to some
more dancing like without though changing the essence of the band’s sound. I
can’t say that BEORN reminded me of something in specific, but I can definitely
compare them with such bands like HELLOWEEN, GAMMA RAY, ORDEN OGAN (yes they
too do have some folk metal elements) and DRAGONFORCE.
CONCLUSION: So
all these as you can see will guarantee you an album full of variety and fresh
and good ideas. They might not bring something groundbreaking to the sound, but
they are definitely good at what they do and give to it their own personal
touch. I think the fans of modern euro power metal will appreciate these guys
who in their debut album prove themselves more than capable. Check them out…
