CRITICAL SOLUTION – Sleepwalker review

 CRITICAL SOLUTION – Sleepwalker
Punishment 18 Records
Norway is a country connected with the black metal since they have one of the strongest and most influential scenes in the world. It seems, though, that Norway is not only about black metal. CRITICAL SOLOUTION which are from Norway are here to state to us that you can also be dark and aggressive by playing a different style of metal.

“Sleepwalker” is the sophomore release of the band and as they state, this is a more complicated album from their debut which was entitled “Evil Never Dies” and it was a straight forward thrash metal album (I have already presented it on our zine). Here the band tries to mix things and enrich its thrash metal sound with traditional metal elements. Also the album is based on a horror story they have invented (I think it is a concept album, although I don’t have the lyrics) and try to make their sound atmospheric. I know that words like atmospheric give most of us goose bumps and we have connected it with such words as boring, but this is not the case. CRITICAL SOLOUTION are in their core an 80’s metal influenced bands and when they mean atmosphere they have in their minds bands like MERCYFUL FATE and KING DIAMOND. Actually, in my opinion a perfect way to describe their sound is to imagine MERCYFUL FATE mainly and KING DIAMOND playing bay area thrash metal. After all the participation of Michael Denner and Hank Shermann as guests on this album prove, in a way, my words.
The compositions on this album are well balanced between their thrash and heavy metal parts and a great work has been done on the solos and guitar lead parts. The production is dynamic and very natural and it helps the listener to listen to the album in every detail. Finally CRITICAL SOLUTION sound as a well tight and experienced band with an enthusiasm for what they do. They definitely have something that makes them differ from other thrash metal bands of our days.
