ABSORB –Vision Apart Review

ABSORB’s story is a story of struggle and perseverance. Why am I saying this? Because the band was originally formed in 1989, so this makes it one of the first extreme bands to appear in the worldwide metal scene. However, due to reasons unknown to me they never managed to surface or release anything other than a couple of demos and a split work and then they called it a day. Their hiatus lasted long, approximately thirteen years, but the fact is that they have never really given up and in 2007 they reformed. Something that resulted in the release of their long overdue debut full length work, “Dealing with Pain”, that came in 2010.

Apparently these Germans don’t like to rush things since it took them nearly five years to release their sophomore work, “Vision Apart”, which is a four track EP. Music-wise things are pretty straightforward since the guys deliver old school death metal that draws direct influences from the American death metal scene. In fact they brought to my mind bands like CANNIBAL CORPSE, ILLDISPOSED (I know they are not American) and SIX FEET UNDER, mainly the latter, since they infuse their music with some clean vocals, melodic parts and even with some grooves. The rhythm section is solid as it should be in a death metal release with plenty of blast beats and it is accompanied by some very good guttural vocals. The songs are tight and ideal for head banging, so I think that the death metal fans should make sure they check “Vision Apart” out. It is worth your time.
