All
good things start as an idea, but to materialize this idea and make it happen requires
talented musicians to be found and of course to be determined. I think that
talent and determination is what made this EP possible for us to listen to.
FROM THE DUST RETURNED was an idea of Alex De Angelis (vocals, guitars) in 2015
which he managed to realize after a change of line-ups. Actually the band
managed to find a stable line –up during the recording of its debut album. The
problems continued when the recordings of this EP were lost and the band
decided to re – record it in a new studio. So after so many line–up changes and
misfortune which the band’s determination surpassed I have in my hands their
lost EP.
It
is really hard in our days to find a band that can sound original or to make
you feel they make things differently from other groups of the same genre. This
is how I felt when I listened to the first tunes of the “Homecoming” EP. I had
the sense that I was listening to something familiar yet given in a very fresh
and original way.
Musically
the band moves on the progressive metal/rock path and actually they balance
very well between these 2 genres and the passage from the one to the other
comes very naturally. Their sound has a strong 70’s rock and metal touch with
some intense psychedelic – space rock elements that reminded me a bit of HAWKWIND.
Also they use clear and harsh vocals that give to their songs a dramatic touch
which fit with their lyrics that have an emotional and existential orientation.
“Homecoming”
introduces us to a band that transcends the boundaries of a specific genre and
having as guide their imagination offer us an album that has variety and above
all sounds original and inspired. I know that it is not an easy listening, but
it is a release that will pay you back especially if you search for something
fresh in the progressive metal scene.
